Hull Preparation and Coatings for Small Craft
H2O Contractors Ltd offer a full range of hull cleaning techniques covering the whole spectrum from simple slime and encrustation removal through to full stripping to the raw hull material. Coupled with the need to achieve a surface profile to paint manufacturers specifications the options are quite broad. Pressures and methods will vary with hull material and the method of construction. All H2O plant is variable pressure and by carrying a wide variety of nozzle, head and abrasive media options there are few jobs outside our immediate experience.
Standard preparation methods include:
- Waterblasting from 1,500 to 36,000-psi (100 – 2720 bar)
- Wet and dry abrasive blasting
Steel & Aluminium Hulls
Cleaning of metal hulls is a relatively simple operation as they can withstand high and concentrated water pressure. Steel boats often require abrasive blasting to meet the paint manufactures requirements. Aluminium is not suited to coarse abrasion like steel. We offer alternatives and careful practices to avoid such problems.
Waterblasting at pressures up to 4,000-psi will remove most fouling without damaging timber or sound caulking provided the existing anti-fouling coatings are in good condition. Use of specifically designed rotating nozzles instead of traditional fan jets results in reduced damage maintaining maximum jet impact.
Fibreglass and GRP Hulls
Waterblasting at an appropriate pressure As for wooden hulls rotating nozzle technology is applied to minimise structural damage especially for fared hulls.
H2O Contractors Ltd. offers more than fully mobile plant, a full range of water, slurry and dry blasting options coupled with 24 hour/7 day a week service. We also offer a wealth of experience and advice in all areas of surface preparation whether it be marine, industrial or domestic which will complement that which you will receive from your specialist coating provider.
